Research Intelo reports that the “Advanced Tire” market is projected to reach nearly $USD 4.2 billion by 2034. These innovations are crucial for the future of mobility, as electric and autonomous vehicle fitments, since they can help extend battery life and provide enhanced road safety.
Advanced tires – sometimes called Smart Tires – can include embedded intelligent monitoring systems, predictive maintenance technologies, and ultra-low rolling resistance designs to optimize vehicle performance and energy efficiency. Embedded sensors can also provide real-time data on critical performance metrics such as tire pressure, temperature, tread wear and roadway adhesion, enabling predictive maintenance and reducing the risk of tire blowouts.

Incentivized by the marketplace success of other on-vehicle system enhancements, automakers are prioritizing investments in smart tire solutions that cater to evolving consumer preferences and regulatory requirements.
Interestingly, the Asia-Pacific region accounted for 40% of the global advanced tires market in 2024, driven by large-scale infrastructure updates and a booming automotive industry. However, despite their many advantages, several challenges have been working against widespread adoption. For example, the high initial cost of smart tires, especially in budget vehicle segments, certainly limits mass-market penetration. In addition, concerns over data accuracy, cybersecurity, and compatibility with existing vehicle systems continue to persist. Another concern relates to the durability of sensors in harsh use cases and environments.
